Jedburgh - Lilliesleaf Circular

The route is mainly on A and B roads and would suit those who are at ease with cars overtaking them on the road.

Starting in Jedburgh town centre, where you turn left out of the car park into Abbey Bridge End and then left again on reaching the Market Square into Castlegate.  This road climbs steeply out of the town and continues to do so for about 2 and half miles to its summit on the north side of Dunion Hill.  Just after you’ve passed the summit, views of the Eildon Hills and Rubers Law can be seen and on your way downhill you’ll see Minto Hills and towards the north, Fatlips Castle set on top of a craggy outcrop.

At the foot of the long descent, turn left at the junction and join the A698 heading towards Hawick.  Please be careful as you may encounter fast moving traffic on this road into Denholm.  On entering Denholm you turn right off the main road and then wind your way out of the village on the B6405.

Continue on this road and when you arrive at Hassendean, turn right towards Lilliesleaf.  The part of the route rolls through undulating agricultural countryside. After passing through Lilliesleaf, take the first turning on the right and continue for 6 miles along the B6400 where you’ll arrive at Ancrum.  Travel through the village and a short distance beyond, turn right at the junction with the A68, and then immediately left towards Nisbet.  Continue for 2 and half miles along the B6400 and when at Nisbet turn right on the main road to cross the River Teviot and at the junction just west of Crailing, turn right onto the A698.  After just over a mile turn left onto a minor road leading towards Jedburgh.  When you meet the junction turn left onto the A68 and the left immediately to take you into Jedburgh town centre.
