Cunninghame Cycleway
Running from Kilmarnock Railway Station to the ferry port of Ardrossan, this largely traffic-free route follows a disused railway line and the riverside path through Irvine and towards Kilwinning, passing the Garnock Floods Nature Reserve. Eglinton Country Park is just off the route and offers extensive opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding and angling. Discover the Visitor Centre, enjoy the Ranger led activities or relax on the castle lawn with a picnic while the children enjoy the play areas.
At Kilwinning, the route then turns west along minor roads to Stevenston, before rejoining a traffic-free path which runs along the coast and gives sweeping views towards the isle of Arran. At Ardrossan, you can take your bike on the ferry to the Isle of Arran, known as ‘Scotland in miniature’, where the route continues from Brodick to Lochranza. There are train stations along the route, though there is no direct service between Ardrossan and Kilmarnock. An alternative return option is to use the The Irvine and Kilwinning New Town Trail between Kilwinning and Dreghorn, visit: http://www.ayrshirepaths.org.uk/

To join this route at Kilmarnock Station you either need to carry your bike down the stairs from the platforms and turn right. Or if you get off on platforms 1 - 3 you have the alternative of going through the ticket office and down the ramp. If you do this you may wish to walk round the busy one way section (just 100 metres). Bear left all the way, go under the railway arches (Garden Street) and immediately left onto Hill Street (which is well named!)
