Saundersfoot to Stepaside

This short and spectacular ride into the heart of the popular seaside resort of Saundersfoot takes you from a quiet wooded valley, along a wonderful raised promenade up above the crashing waves of Carmarthen Bay and through a series of short tunnels carved into the cliffs; the path is level and well-surfaced for the whole length.
The ride starts at the Ironworks Heritage Centre at Stepaside, where there is ample parking, and winds through the trees alongside the stream to the beach at Wisemans Bridge. It then turns and follows the beach along the promenade that used to carry the Saundersfoot Railway, originally built to transport iron and coal but now busy with walkers and cyclists enjoying the stunning views.
The approach to Saundersfoot goes through three tunnels and along The Strand to the harbour where there are shops, cafes and restaurants. This route is very popular with walkers, especially in summer, so please be considerate when sharing the path and dismount when you go through the tunnels.

A truly wonderful route. Best place to start is in Stepaside; parking your bike in Saundersfoot is much easier and cheaper than parking your car. Park at the Heritage car park, cross the bridge to the road and then right and the start of the route can be found on the right. The path is perfect for everyone including younger children with stabilisers and brings you out at the coast at Wisemans Bridge. Head across the road for the next section that takes you along National Route 4 into Saundersfoot through the old railway tunnels. The views all along this stretch are spectacular. There are plenty of cafes and restuarants for a cup of tea and an ice cream; the beach is also an option for a game of football or a picnic. Enjoy!
