Trawsfynydd to Gellilydan
This short route is wonderful if you want to get away from the crowds and enjoy the rugged mountains of southern Snowdonia.
Starting on the main street that runs through the village of Trawsfynydd you get amazing views across Llyn Trawsfynydd to the Rhinogs mountains in the background. The route runs parallel with the A470 trunk road for a mile before it joins a bridleway that leads you towards the lake. Following the lake via its wooded shoreline you reach the site of the former nuclear power station which is now being decommissioned, but still makes a striking pose in the natural surroundings.
The route follows a bridleway at the rear of the power station and drops down to the small village of Gellilydan where you can replenish your supplies at the pub or shop.
It is also possible to extend this ride by heading around the southern side of the lake for another couple of miles, but please note that it is not possible to cycle around the whole edge of the lake.
