Rhyl to St Asaph
Starting at the coastal town of Rhyl this route follows the River Clwyd and Elwy at the northern end of the Vale of Clwyd. The ride starts at the Children’s village located on the promenade of this well known seaside resort and heads west towards Kinmel Bay.
Before you reach the Blue Bridge that crosses the River Clwyd at the Foryd Harbour, you turn back on your self to pass Marine Lake and its miniture railway. Take care crossing the H-bridge on road, but you are soon back on traffic free paths at the Glan Morfa Community Woodland, a local nature reserve hemmed in by Rhyl and the River Clwyd. Follow the route south to reach the banks of the River Clwyd with an abundance of birdlife and views down the Vale of Clwyd with the Clwydian Range AONB to your left.
At Rhuddlan a detour to the castle is well worth the trip and the village also has a good variety of cafes and small shops. Continue to St.Asaph running parallel with the main road and then join the riverside route along the banks of the River Elwy. Cross the river into the park for a well earned rest, or continue up the hill to the local shops, cafes and the cathedral in north Wales’ smallest City!
It is also possible to extend this ride by taking the link to the south of the Glan Morfa woodland and heading to Brickfields Pond, a local nature reserve with a circular path and sculpture trail.
