Newtown Riverside

This short route follows the River Severn and uses some sections of the Montgomery Canal as it leaves Newtown on route towards Welshpool.
The name of the route really does give a great indication of what to expect, with a typical riverside path that is both predominantly traffic free and full of wildlife.
The route also follows sections of the Montgomery canal, taking you away from the river but providing excellent views of it, and while some sections have been filled in, part of the canal is still a waterway, giving a great glimpse into the past.
In addition to the wildlife that can be seen along the whole route, you also pass the Pwll Penarth Nature Reserve which is an excellent stop of point should you wish break up the ride.
The route is due to be extended along the canal to the village of Abermule where a choice of pubs provides a welcome drink to all riders!
